Information about Diabetes and Hypertension

More than 1 million Australians have type 2 diabetes, a disease becoming more prevalent with advancing age and obesity. Approximately 70 percent of these people with diabetes (700,000 Australians) also have high blood pressure (hypertension), making the Duo-Care Monitor a very helpful tool in the management of this disease.

Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other foods into energy needed for daily life.

People with diabetes have an elevated risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye complications, nerve damage, foot and skin complications, as well as depression.

Hypertension and Diabetes

Hypertension is defined as having blood pressure greater than or equal to 140/90 mm Hg. It is an extremely common condition among individuals living with diabetes, affecting a significant proportion of all diagnosed patients, depending on obesity, ethnicity and age.

High blood pressure and high blood glucose levels are known to contribute to some complications of diabetes including heart disease, nerve damage, kidney disease and small blood vessel damage.

The DUO-CARE Solution

The new DUO-CARE™ monitor represents an exciting advancement in diabetes home monitoring, as it combines tests for both factors of critical importance to diabetics - blood glucose and blood pressure - in one convenient, affordable, easy-to-use monitor.

In addition to increasing activity and changes to diet, patients can also help reduce the risk of complications by self monitoring their blood glucose and blood pressure levels and detecting worrying trends earlier.  This increased awareness and information will assist a patient and their doctor, to devise appropriate disease management plans to improve the health outcomes.

DUO-CARE is for monitoring only and should not be used for diagnosis of diabetes and hypertension. Please visit your doctor if you have any concerns about diabetes.
